Stargate Studios is a high-tech production house that specialises in visual effects for the tee-vee and film industry, and they are playing at the top of the game. Check out the very impressive showreel for their "virtual backlot"... where they film sequences for a whole range of programmes you've definitely seen. Very cool stuff.

Who wants to be a network head when they grow up...? This clip comes from a TED talk by digital marketing maven Peter Hirshberg entitled "The Web and TV: A Sibling Rivalry". Basically, Hirshberg talked to a bunch of "tweeners" to ask about whether they preferred to watch TV or surf the Net.... ummmm.... yeah, what do you think?

Apparently, over 5 million people know about this already, but this is quite a creative way to use web video. I could see this improving over time, but even now it has lots of potential for commercial application. The genius behind this group is Patrick Bovin from Canada. Here is the list of Interactive videos he has done. Enjoy!

Very interesting story at WNYMedia (Story) that makes me wish I had thought of it first. NCB4i, has created the continuous news desk. In their own words: "Instead of sitting behind the anchor desk in the studio, Cabot Rea and Ellie Merritt will deliver the news and interact with viewers from the heart of the NBC 4 newsroom, in front of their computers." Are they really reading the news and typing at the same time? The website layout is a bit disappointing, but they have the right idea making the feed accessible through many different readers and feeders. Best of luck to those who break new ground in old industries. Hey, they even have their own Water Cooler, but that is just the title of their Entertainment section.

The N.Y. Times has a great technology section, despite David Pouge. Here is a great article about the transformation of the consumer hardware industry. And, another about Mozilla funding a new open-source video format.
