Thanks to the help of Daniel Clarke, we managed to discover a dirty little Panasonic/Apple P2 ingesting codec secret. Recently, (today) we shot on Panasonic HXP3000G with P2 cards using the AVC-Intra codec "AVC-C100 1080i/29.97" (our first mistake: we should have gone with DVProHD). Then upon trying to ingest the material in FCP6 we were getting "AVC-Intra codec not found" error issues and the clips could not be brought in (we need to output MOV). Gallantly, Daniel let his fingers do the walking through Google pages and came in with this: http://forums.creativecow.net/thread/193/869891 . Eureka!, problem solved. We have also uploaded this little devil on our own website (unprotected) in case Panasonic ever decide to discontinue it. AVCIntraDecoder_v1.2.1.pkg.zip Beware these are the minimum settings needed: FCP: FinalCutPro6.0.3

This is a re-post from C. Slaughter. The math and their calculations have changed over time ("2 hours to download" and "5 dollars a minute"), but otherwise they got it quite right. I guess most other newspapers did not watch television in 1981???

Apparently, over 5 million people know about this already, but this is quite a creative way to use web video. I could see this improving over time, but even now it has lots of potential for commercial application. The genius behind this group is Patrick Bovin from Canada. Here is the list of Interactive videos he has done. Enjoy!

I for one, am tired of all the whining about the demise of newspapers and reporters. My solution; "adapt or die", thank you Mr. Darwin! Here is a helpful video presented by the Nieman Journalism Lab, entitled:
Now get out there and have a good time evolving!

From such a progressive state comes the sad news that Singapore's RIPS (Recording Industry Performance Singapore) is charging new licensing fees for online radio stations, even the ones that are simply mirrors of real AM/FM stations. This has resulted in some streams simply disappearing. Wonderful way to promote and expand Singapore's image as a technology leader in Asia, don't you think? Read more here:

Think of the storyboards you could make with this! Just input the text, choose the setting, and move the camera around.

Shocking news from HK this morning. APV's Andrea Rascaglia 'accidentally' painted his new apartment the same color as APV's pantone color "fcb514". His only explanation was fatigue and lack of instant coffee the day he purchased the paint. APV founder Mark Erder has promised no legal action against his designer and stated, "a 14 month 'lease-of-regret' is punishment enough". Further details to come.
